The mission of the yogathon is to create a deep recognition that all beings want to be happy and free from suffering. Eoin Finn founded the festival in 2001 with his friend Maxine and I think the interesting angle now is that there are literally thousands of festivals around the world that follow the same format of Yoga, Music and Food to raise money for charity. This is the world’s original one, and we usually have thousands of yogis come together to raise awareness and funds for children impacted by HIV/AIDS. The funds raised from this event will help send a child to summer camp for the experience of a lifetime.

anyhoo yest i went fer d MTV WORLD STAGE concert where Estranged, Boys Like Girl, Raygun, Pixie Lott, Hoobastank, All American Rejects and Kasabian performed. T.T wauhs almost all the bands i like okay. T.T die die i wanna go T.T

hanged out with vic and his friends, only brought my digicam and aaaaa i always love concerts where the crowd are actually hyped up and knows the artist’s songs and all.. so sad when some of them actually leave after AAR perform. Kasabian is pretty awesome and that’s why they were placed last ok.

anyhoo i think overall it was quite best lah the only thing was that the intervals were quite long and all of a sudden there’s a dj spinning lame tracks during intervals.. =.= nonetheless Hoobastank was d bomb and i love it when bands do covers!!!! they played the Ghostbuster’s theme song and it was so funny… ahhaha.. (i got an mp3 where incubus did a cover of spongebob’s theme song wtf damn funny ok)

while i crashed whole day today after a tiring night @ MTVws , i am now waiting for my vids to be uploaded @youtube hahahaa but sadly my connection is pretty slow.

The Zawose Family. Got blown away by their performance…

Will blog more bout the RWMF later but for now, im going to pen down some of the conversations i had with SOOOOOO many different kind of people throughout my stay in Kuching. :) I have to write these down fast before i forgot them.

I must say… Kuching is very much like ipoh. And i love small towns like these.. ;)

When i first met Leo..

“Hey, why your voice is so soft? I thought an outgoing adventurous girl like you would have like a strong deep voice?”

- HAHAHAHA… :P Hmm.. i dont know, do i sound soft? :P

At the main entrance where i was doing security duties

“Hi, you look so familiar… were you in my dreams yesterday?”

- lol… that’s so corny… why do people use pickup lines like these.. lol!!! :P

From all the Philipino(PHP) guys doing security duties (Most of them dont speak english but these words they utter to me everyday were really meaningful).

“Good Morning!!!”

While i was patroling with one of the PHP guy around 2-3pm, he asked me whether i had my lunch; when i said No, he pulled out a packet of biscuit and mineral water from nowhere and offered it to me.. O_O!!!!!

i seriously dint expect that, and i was just thinking wow.. there are actually guys like this around. hmm :/

and on the last day… the bunch of PHP guys were standing outside the hotel waving at me and saying

“Goodbye Jenifer!!!!”

T.T kinda felt attached to them altho we all dint really speak much but still.. it was really nice having them around.

I was talking with Donald of Kinabalu Merdu Sound all the way @ the workshop. He was sitting beside me and the conversation was so insightful!!! :) It started with me complimenting his workshop earlier on bamboo sounds and then he continued with telling me histories of all the instruments in Sarawak and Sabah. He couldnt speak English that much.. and then halfway i told him that why dont we just speak malay… :)

He  told me the origin of the song “Jambatan Tamparuli”  folk song of sabahans was written by his late uncle. I reallly love Kinabalu Merdu Sound’s version of Jambatan Tamparuli but unfortunately it cant be found in youtube and i wasnt fast enough to record it.

But anyways… here’s the song

This is my fav song from the Sabahans. The lyric’s quite funny but i guess it tells a simple story with a very traditional melody. :) Another song that i like is “Sayang Kinabalu” which they performed as well.

:) Anyways.. my point is that i have never met such a humble person in my life, and talking with Donald of Kinabalu Merdu Sound was really … refreshing and i find that the music they play closes the barrier of people around the world and showcases our traditional music at its best.

I was a little sad when the workshop ended as that will be the end of our conversation regarding music, politics and religion. I never knew that the people in Sarawak and Sabah have views and opinions like that and it really opened my eye.

Evertime when i was patroling @ the RWMF.. i always come around strangers who ask for directions and also just to ask anything at all.

I thought that most people would stop me and ask me directions to the loo but i was wrong. i was stopped/tapped at the shoulder at least 6-7 times with one similar question

“Hi, are you a Sarawakian?”

O_O?

Well.. my subsequent answer would obviously be No, and i’ll continue asking them why and so..

Few of them say i look like a traditional Sarawakian (O_O????)

and there’s a particular group of friends who were trying to guess whether they can tell a person is local or not. (60% of the RWMF attendees were foreigners), and if they are local, are they from Sarawak/Sabah or West M.

this group of girls and guys were actually betting that i am a true blue Sarawakian (O_O????)

And when i say im Not, they dint believe me.. O_O???

Interesting.. :/

Funny part was, even the foreigners were asking me the same question with the same answer.. i look like a sarawakian =.=” do sarawakians have a certain “look”? O_o … hmm

Anyways, moving on.

While i was @ one of the workshops, the stage managers called me up with a really interesting task.

i had to climb a few feet high stage with my skirt on and so, he helped me up but completely forgotten about me when i wanted to come down. (there were no stairs).  i took the plunge and jump down =.=” fall on the floor and bruised my shin. hurts like hell.  yeay T___T

the stage manager kept apolagizing but i really thought the whole experience was super funny.. lol..

completely forgot about it later when i saw the blue black on my leg but now that i’m back, i remember how i got it @ the first place. totally hilarious. lol.

i was talking with a security guard (50+ melanau guy) about politics O_o, food =.=”, religion (mainly about islam and melanau) and also artists..

the conversation is too long to re enact because we were chatting for almost an hour ..the conversation was one of the most exciting one i ever had with a stranger. we jump from topic to topic and he always relates it back to me with questions that i have never thought he would ask.

and yes, he even thought i was a sarawakian. =.= ”

guess what..

i even chatted with a 3 year old boy and 5 year old girl from london =.=

i was just hanging out at one of the orang iban houses on the wooden swing and both of them were playing there as well.

they started playing with me =.=” and i chatted with them for a good 30 mins omg O_O with a 3 year old kid O_O

i also talked with the inti-illimani group from chile and the english they speak is quite limited and they mostly speak spanish.

and so.. imagine a duck and a chicken talking, trying to find a common understanding..

phew. that was really .. something!

this is the first time i spoke to sooo many different people from diff countries in a span of one week !!!

i must say… a good decent conversation is so hard to get nowadays.

At first i was rather confident and wanted to join the half marathon @ 21km.. =.=” but in the end chicked out after i watch the route video.

We registered for the 10km marathon but was still doubtful whether we can actually make it.

For myself… this is my first marathon… after like… 15 years i guess. My last marathon was when i was in high school and that was only 7km. =.=

I started running on threadmills @ the gym on mondays for about 4km each week. Took me half an hour to run 4km everytime. (i have really bad timing i know.. :( )

A few days before the marathon, i started eating more carbs (advice from colleagues) and ate 2 bananas every morning and after meals everyday =.=” (very kiasu i know)

and a night before that, i loaded my phone with MJ tracks to boost my spirit up so that i can continue running towards the end..

Thanks Adrian for helping to collect my race pack and Bib as i was occupied on the day we were supposed to go collect it.

On race day, i reached damn early (430am?) because of the parking issues that was made known earlier by the organizers. The rest took LRT (which i think is a smarter move).

The full marathon flagged off as early as 5am and Dataran Merdeka was already packed with runners all over. Some were warming up, stretching, jumping around, taking pictures and such…

Time pass pretty fast and soon when the rest arrived, i got my shirt and quickly changed and kept our race packs.

For the 10km marathon, the flag off starts at 7am :)

After the flag off… everyone started running and i started walking.. cause i didn’t really warm up before start.. =.=”. Although with all the time i had.. i was just doing nothing =.=”

Another classic rookie mistake.. i forgot to time my race. :( i kept reminding myself few times the night before to remember to set the timer on my phone but i forgot in the end due to the excitement.

When we reach Jalan Mahameru, i was all pumped up and started running.. ;) Felt really energetic and keep having this voice in my head that keeps chanting that i must finish this shit no matter what.

However, another classic rookie mistake was not organizing my music in proper folders and i end up listening to a lot of slow ballads all along the way. I remember clearly listening to “Negaraku” when reaching 5km and it was so disturbing.. i had to quickly change the song because it wasnt motivating at all.

Only towards the end… songs that are fast paced started playing and i remember it was Flo Riders, Pitbull – Move Shake Drop that got me all energetic and heading towards the finish line.. :D

I think some runners might even notice me singing to Paramore while running.. =.=” lol..

Anyhow, i dont know my exact finishing time.. but it was within the time limit for 10km marathon (1 hour 30 mins) and i remember after im cross the finishing line.. i just stood there silly not knowing what to do next cause i cant see anyone familiar… hahaa.. then after a while i saw adrian coming from the back and then we went to get our 100plus first ..

After replenishing all those fluids gone from our body.. we went to collect our packs and medals, camhored, and headed to PS for breakfast.
Head home later after that and called it a day. Slept the whole day to regain back some energy and the next morning.. my leg feels kinda numb. lol..

Overall, the Standard Chartered KL Marathon was quite fun.. since it’s my first time on a full fledge marathon like this.
It was really, really inspiring to me at how our body can go so far. well, not our body actually, i would say our mind.
I saw a few senior citizens, white hair, fragile body and such going for the full marathon and i even saw an uncle who ran barefoot…
it is amazing how they do it. i admire and respect their physical and emotional strength.
There were a few couples that i saw which was really inspiring as well. There’s particularly one i saw where the husband hurt the ankle just 2km before the finishing line, the wife helped him towards the side and help massage his leg. Before this, the husband was the one who pulled the wife forward by the running band. seriously inspiring.

There were many pitfalls which i guess comes from the organizers. but i think overall it was not bad for me. i will def. join again next year just to challenge myself again. ;)

Last Saturday i was at Urbanscapes! Which really make sense cause i think i WILL be there every year.. O_o (Last Year’s entry HERE)

got there like 15 mins past 12pm and got a lucky parking spot just right at the entrance. weee.. :D
And not to mention.. also got a last minute complimentary tic thanks to Wilson. double weeeee.. :D

met up with rames , jason and ck , then jln2 at the marketplace first (inner shopaholic emerges) hohoho.. reallllly like some of the cute skirts tht i spot but walked off (am so proud of myself) ;D

but yea.. i support online stores(because i own one) and i also support second hand stuffs, thrifted and vintage. try and use your eco friendly bag girls! designer handbags are so last season. :P

vintage handbags.. which i think can be found at ANY bazaars selling less than rm30.

LOMO! there were a few shops spotted selling lomos at discounted prices- namely TheClickShop and Mooks (i saw the Diana Glow there selling for only RM400!!!)

The Golden Half at The Click Shop store… having promotion for only rm170. Did i get it? hehehee.. :P also 35mm iso400 films for rm10 per roll. its cheap yo.

Genesis Culture was there. haha.. Had to walk 2 pace faster everytime i walk pass their stall cause ruben and andrew keep screaming “Jenifer! Jenifer! Jenifer!” … lol… :P

The crafts inside KLPAC. Altho i must say i prefer the ones last year. This is particularly the one about recycling.. ;) how garbage can actually be some form of art as well..

Urbanscapes this year was bigger and better organized. Kudos to the organizers. i will def. be there again next year . tho i must say next year if the weather is THAT scorching hot, please do add in your brainstorm session perhaps the idea of a milo or nescafe van. free icy cold drinks would be such a life saver.
