can you survive a harddisk crash?

i almost had a heartattack..

my western digital 500gb hdd storing all my pictures and work is not detectable anymore. no, it’s not due to a cable faulty issue.

normally my laptop would take seconds to detect the drive but now it just cant be able to detect it and hangs my explorer.

i couldnt breathe. all my work. pictures. all so important to me… its as if my past is going to be erased!

then i tried plugging in to my housemate’s pc and after 10 minutes… OMG. it can be detected. but later i found out that all the files is still intact but cant be clicked! i seriously cannot breathe for a second. it’s just in front of my eyes. but i canot do anything to save my files. or backup anything. 500gb! HOW to save?

and worse still is that i discover all this right at 12am. i dont think i can sleep tonight. i just want to save everything asap! 

pls god dont do this to me. all those files are too precious to my life.

all my life’s work is in there!

damn sad. in times of crisis.. the customer support team from wd whom should have arrived at work by 9am dint pick up my phone for a good 15 minutes. at last someone pic up at 9.20am but she is not from the support team and cant help me at all. when i ask her where is everyone. she said.. no one is at work yet. wtf. T___T

i tried detecting my hdd in my office and surprise surprise.. it can be detected. some of my files are still there. most are gone. im trying to save whatever i can first. :(

will get a new hdd later to backup my files. i think i will get the 1TB maxtor external hdd. kinda scary if 1TB of data is lost. but im using it as a backup for the moment.

i think the 500gb wd can be replaced since it’s still under warranty(5 years) . but hopefully it is really so.

on another note. i couldnt sleep yesterday. and i dreamt about my hard disk.

i dreamt that the reason why my hdd crashed was cause there was a monster living in it. i cant see the face of the monster. but it’s white in color. and very small. it crept out from the holes of the casing when i try to freeze my hdd (aaron’s idea, placing it under super cold aircon to revive it). when i saw the monster, i caught it and try to squeeze it to death but it can’t die. i throw it out of the window but it came back. then i capture it and put it in a fireball wtf so weird and throw it to the road and quickly ran inside the house and lock the door and before i know it there was an explosion. when i open the door, the whole street is filled with the monster. it’s undestructable.!!!! and then i woke up.

gah… seriously im so jaded i dont know what to feel anymore.
